D'arcy Wiart, M.S., ATC (Class of 2010) accepted a position as Head Athletic Trainer of the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League in Dubuque, Iowa.

Jada "Turtle" (Phillips) Vanderlip, M.S., ATC (Class of 2010) accepted a position as Head Athletic Trainer at Westside High School in Anderson, SC.
8/9/2010:
Dr. Buckley, working as a member of a reseach team including faculty members in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology and Psychology at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) as well as PMB Intelligence Corp (West Lafayette, IN) have received notification of approval of their grant from the Army Research Office (STIR Grant) for $50,000 to study "Nonlinear Dynamics Used to Classify Effects of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury"
7/15/2010:
The Georgia Southern Athletic Training Graduate Program welcomes Justin Matlage, M.S., ATC, as the newest member of the Clinical Athletic Training Staff. Mr. Matlage comes to Georgia Southern from the Carolina Panthers where he completed a full year internship after earning a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Matlage will be the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football and will also supervise Graduate and Undergraduate students in the Athletic Training programs.
7/7/2010:
Beth Saunders M.S., ATC (Class of 2010) submitted a manuscript to the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, "Coaching Education Students' Knowledge of Sports-Related Concussions." Co-authors on the paper include Dr. Joyner, Dr. Burdette, and Dr. Buckley from the Department of Health and Kinesiology and Dr. Metzler (Science Applications International Corporation).
7/6/2010:
Dr. Buckley and Dr. Munkasy were awarded a Faculty Development Research grant for $9,985 to study, "Identification of Persistent Impairments in Postural Control Following Concussion".
6/29/2010:
Dr. Buckley is a contributing author on a manuscript, "Credential Characteristics of Georgia High School Coaches" in the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (GAHPERD) Journal. The lead author on the study was Dr. Burton and other contributing authors include Dr. Burdette, Dr. Zwald, and Dr. Czech from the Department of Health and Kinesiology.
6/21/2010:

The lead author on the study was Dr. Burton and other contributing authors include Dr. Burdette, Dr. Zwald, and Dr. Czech from the Department of Health and Kinesiology.
6/19/2010:
John Burk, M.S., ATC (Class of 2010) submitted a manuscript to the Journal of Athletic Training entitled, "A Competitve Athletic Season Alters Balance Error Scoring System Performance". Co-authors on the paper include Dr. Munkasy, Dr. Joyner, and Dr. Buckley.
6/4/2010:
John Burk, M.S., ATC (Class of 2010) accepted an Athletic Training position with Southeastern Orthopedic Center as Head Athletic Trainer at Swainsboro High School in Swainsboro, GA.
6/3/2010:
Dr. Buckley presented an abstract, "Deficits in Postural Stability Following Concussion Persist Beyond BESS Recovery" at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD.
5/14/2010:

4/1/2010:
Marie Kirby submitted a Masters Research Grant to the National Athletic Trainers' Association Research and Education Foundation. Marie's grant applicated entitled, 'Effects of Training on Stable vs Unstable Surfaces to Improve Dynamic Postural Stability" has requested $1,000 in funding. Marie projects involves a postural control training program utilizing the Wii system to improve postural stability during dynamic tasks.
3/31/2010:
Congratulates to John Burk for being awarded 1st place at the 8th Annual College of Graduate Studies Research Symposium as the representative of the College of Health and Human Sciences. John's original research poster, " The Effect of a Competitive Athletic Season on Performance of the Balance Error Scoring System" was voted best of the 26 submitted and presented abstracts.

The Graduate Athletic Training Program is happy to announce the selection of Hollis Theard for a Graduate Assistantship starting in the Fall 2010 semester. Ms. Theard will provide athletic training services to Bulloch Academy in Statesboro, GA. Hollis comes to GSU from Elon University where she will be graduating in May with a degree in Athletic Training.

Mr. Moreau comes to GSU from Central Michigan University where he will be graduating in May with a degree in Athletic Training. Matt is currently completing an athletic training internship at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.
2/2/21010:
Beth Saunders and Jada Phillips both had their abstracts accepted by the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Meeting in Panama City, FL. Ms. Saunders will be presenting her research findings as an Oral Report on Friday, March 19th. On the same day, Ms. Phillips will be present her research findings as a poster presentation. Congratulations to Beth and Jada on their acceptance.

The Georgia Southern Athletic Training Graduate Program welcomes John Erwin, ATC as the newest member of the Clinical Athletic Training Staff. Mr. Erwin comes to Georgia Southern after completing his Master of Science degree from Arkansas State University. Mr. Erwin's primary responsibility will be providing Athletic Training services to the Men's Basketball program. Mr. Erwin will also supervise Graduate and Undergraduate students in the Athletic Training programs.

1/16-17/2009:
The Georgia Southern Athletic Training Faculty and Graduate Students play a large role at the Georgia Athletic Training Association Annual Meeting in Peachtree City, GA. Dr. Buckley opened the meeting with an overview of recent research findings on Concussions as a part of a panel entitled, "A Comprehensive Approach to Concussion Care." Georgia Southern Univerisities Athletic Training program closed the session on Saturday afternoon with case studies presentations by graduate students, Ms. Jennifer Tolson and Mr. Brian Seiler.
12/12/2008:
Ms. Jennifer Tolson,(Class of 2009), received an $563.55 masters research grant from the NATA Research & Education Foundation. The grant supports her Thesis research project; "Dynamic Postural Stability during Gait Initiation in Individuals with Chronic Ankle Instability: Influence of Velocity and Direction".
12/1/2008:
Three members of the Georgia Southern Athletic Training program submitted abstracts for the NATA Annual Meeting in June 2009. Ms. Jennifer Tolson submitted an original research abstract based on her thesis work entitled, "Dynamic Postural Stability during Gait Initiation in Individuals with Chronic Ankle Instability: Influence of Velocity and Direction" and Ms. Beth Saunders submitted an origianl research abstract entitled, "Limited Impact of “Heads Up – Concussion in Youth Sports“ Amongst Georgia High School Coaches." Finally, Dr. Buckley and Dr. Munkasy submitted an original research abstract entitled, "Dynmaic Postural Stability during Gait Initiation is Impaired Following a Concussion: A Preliminary Analysis".
