Human Performance Laboratory
The Human Performance Laboratory is a teaching and research facility within the Department of Health and Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Sciences on the Georgia Southern University campus. Our mission is to provide undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty members with learning and research opportunities within the field of Exercise Physiology. Students using the Human Performance Laboratory are working towards a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology or a Master of Science in Kinesiology with an Emphasis in Exercise Science.
The Human Performance Laboratory is divided into 2 separate units. Hanner 2223 is the laboratory teaching side containing equipment for training in blood pressure measurement, bicycle and treadmill exercise testing, strength assessment, and health/fitness evaluation. This equipment includes:
- TriFIT 600 system
- Monark bicycle ergometers
- Free weight rack and olympic platform
- Hand grip dynamometers
- Blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers
- Polar heart rate monitors
- Bioelectrical impedance body composition devices
The research side (Hanner 2310) is dedicated to the development of research interests amongst graduate and undergraduate students as well as conducting meaningful scientific research. The Human Performance Research Laboratory has capabilities for fitness evaluation and assessment, body composition assessment, and biochemistry. Equipment in the main laboratory space lab includes:

- Quinton 640 treadmill
- Lode Excalibur Bicycle Ergometer
- VIASYSÂ Vmax Encore for Oxygen Analysis and Pulmonary Function Testing
- LMI BodPod body composition assessment system
- GE Lunar DEXA for bone density and body composition
- Monark bicycle ergometer with software for anaerobic testing
- Blood pressure assessment equipment, and a digital body weight scale
The equipment within the hematology room (Hanner 2310A) provides the capability to assess many aspects of blood chemistry.
