Student Learning Outcome

The Georgia Southern University Undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program aspires to provide a comprehensive educational and clinical foundation to prepare students to enter the allied health profession of Athletic Training.  The program develops students who are clinically competent and independent-thinking health care providers.  Georgia Southern University is committed to becoming a leader in Athletic Training education and services.  It is our goal to have a highly successful Athletic Training Education Program that will allow students unlimited access to instruction, research, and state-of-the-art technology allowing them to develop into a highly-skilled Athletic Trainer.

The ultimate goals of the program are to prepare students to sit for the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board ofCertification national exam, to subsequently gain entry into advanced professional programs of study, or gain employment asan entry level certified athletic trainer (ATC). Since the program's inception, 83% of our program graduates have passed the NATA-BOC exam and are now practicing athletic training or continuing their studies in some capacity. Many program graduates have also entered graduate school to earn advanced degrees in athletic training, sports and exercise science, physical therapy, public health, and education. Recent graduates of our program have enrolled at prestigious schools such as: Medical College of Georgia, Georgia State University, James Madison University, West Virginia University, University of South Carolina, University of Arkansas, Belmont College, Michigan State University, Armstrong Atlantic University, University of Massachusetts, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and the University of Kentucky. Others have performed challenging internships and/or are employed by the Atlanta Braves, HealthSouth Corporation, Hughston Clinic, San Francisco 49ers, U. S. Naval Academy, Steadman Hawkins Clinic, Eastern Kentucky University, Davidson College, Georgia Rehabilitation Center, and St. Joseph's/Candler Sports.
