Sport Management
Overview
Sport Management is really the study of business applied to a particular industry—the sport industry. At Georgia Southern, the graduate program in Sport Management mainly concentrates on the business of sporting events by focusing on the business behind intercollegiate and professional sporting events. For instance, students are exposed to:
- the sales, marketing, and promotion of tickets, sponsorships, and merchandise
- the marketing plans and strategies used to generate revenue from sports fans
- the comprehensive role of management in intercollegiate athletics
- the design of trustworthy survey research to provide answers to business questions
- the management of risks at sporting events
- the financial calculations used to examine the return of value to stakeholders
- the various types of strategic goals pursued by sport firms to achieve profitability
- the management of personnel, including volunteers, to produce sustainable competitive advantages
