Student Learning Outcome
Recreation and Tourism Management students are able to design a degree program that provides a foundation of recreation and service industry management skills as well as specialized courses to provide an in-depth understanding of principles and practices related to the emphasis area. Each student's degree plan includes the following elements:
- Recreation and tourism management foundations and essential skills (18 hours).
- Recreation and tourism industry management core (15 hours)
- Emphasis area (one of the following) specific courses (12 Hours)
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Natural & Cultural Resource Management
- Tourism and Community Leisure Services
- Internship at site selected by student and approved by advisor (12 Hours)
The Bachelor of Science degree program in Recreation and Tourism Management is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
As RTM majors, students are engaged by classroom experiences offering current thought and practice in the areas of theory, management practices, cutting edge programming, promotion and marketing applications and the use of current technology. In addition to in class learning, RTM students routinely participate in experiential learning sessions conducted in non classroom environments related to the student's emphasis area. Gaining practical experience is facilitated through the completion of 200 experience hours while in residence and a capstone internship.
