October 13, 2005

Presiding: Tara Hulsey, PhD, RN – Region 7 Coordinator
Present:
| Pam Challey – Lambda Rho-at- Large | Beth NeSmith - Communications |
| Sue Haddock – Regional Coordinator | Gail Walls – Alpha Epsilon |
| Daniel Little – Member Involvement |
Headquarters Update:
STTI has experienced some reorganization in terms of focus areas – the three areas are now called the Three Centers of Excellence and consist of:
- Knowledge and leadership
- Communities and Service
- Sustainability
Unfortunately this reorganization required some change in personnel and six people were given notice that their services were no longer needed. These decisions were certainly not easy to reach but should help Sigma’s overall mission and vision in the future.
HQ encourages Convention attendees to participate and get involved in the sessions on community building and really be a part of the discussion on the future of connecting the global community of nursing.
Region 7 Updates:
Tara has been working on piloting a wellness tool with several chapters in the region. It is a basic health assessment tool and two to three chapters from each state in Region 7 have been selected to give feedback to Tara over the next few weeks. She will have more information to share at Convention.
Tara has requested the Presidents and President-Elects to complete a State of the Chapter report. The final end of biennium regional report will be turned in to the Regional Coordinator, Sue Haddock, very soon so having each chapter submit their own report has been helpful in making sure that all of the information included is current and accurate on the overall state of the region.
If anyone is interested or is aware of others interested in being on the regional committee for the next biennium, please forward that information to Tara.
Region 7 will meet on Monday evening at Convention where Chapters will have time to share innovative ideas about increasing member involvement.
Chapter Announcements:
Lambda Chi - Sandra Walsh will be presented with the international research award at Convention for her research on art therapy with cancer patients. Their school has been partnering with a community college and was recently awarded a $2.5 million grant to fund faculty from community college to come back to get their doctorates. Barry University worked with a private university and Broward County Community College on this grant.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gayle H. Crutchlow
Region 7 Secretary
